About The Position

The Mayo Clinic Arizona Division of Infectious Diseases provides consultation and treatment for inpatients and outpatients with all types of infectious disease. Special interest is placed on the diagnosis and treatment of difficult infectious diseases including mycobacterial and fungal infections (including coccidioidomycosis) and AIDS. Special areas of consultative services include AIDS/HIV infections, Coccidioidomycosis/Valley Fever, Endocarditis, Fever of unknown origin, Orthopedic infections, Osteomyelitis, and Transplants. Infectious diseases constitute three of the top 10 overall leading causes of death in the world. An ever-changing landscape with ease of international travel permitting rapid dissemination of emerging pathogens, evolution and increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant microbes in the health care setting, novel and more-intense immunosuppressive therapies placing patients at a higher risk of opportunistic infections, and the ongoing HIV epidemic are some of the reasons why the field of infectious diseases is an exciting, challenging and immensely rewarding specialty.
