About The Position

The Weekend Program Sonographer position at Advocate Health involves operating ultrasound equipment to perform general, vascular, and/or cardiac procedures. The role requires reviewing patient medical records, positioning patients, and ensuring the accuracy of ultrasound procedures. The sonographer must demonstrate knowledge of patient care across different age groups and maintain records in accordance with regulatory agencies. The position is part-time, requiring work on weekends and holidays, with a focus on patient safety and comfort.

Requirements

  • Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen issued by the ARDMS needs to be obtained within 3 months.
  • Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with OB/GYN issued by the ARDMS needs to be obtained within 3 months.
  • Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration issued by the ARDMS needs to be obtained within 3 months.
  • Vascular Sonography (VS) registration issued by the ARRT needs to be obtained within 3 months.
  • Vascular Specialist (RVS) registration issued by the CCI needs to be obtained within 3 months.
  • Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo issued by the ARDMS needs to be obtained within 18 months.
  • Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration issued by the CCI needs to be obtained within 18 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the AHA needs to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Sonography.

Responsibilities

  • Competently operates ultrasound equipment to perform general, vascular and/or cardiac procedures/studies.
  • Accurately differentiates between normal and pathologic findings.
  • Reviews patient's medical record to obtain necessary clinical information including patient history, lab results, and physician orders.
  • Positions patient and selects proper transducer and technical factors for accurate ultrasound procedures.
  • Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate.
  • Accurately identifies and labels images with patient information.
  • Maintains records in accordance with regulatory agencies and enters patient information into the radiology information system.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and communicates to appropriate staff.
  • Analyzes sonograms and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
