About the position

MaineHealth Surgical Cancer Care Services is looking for an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) interested in joining our busy surgical practice in Portland, Maine. The position we seek to fill will support Endocrine and General Surgical Oncologists. This team of 4 Surgeons and 3 Ambulatory APPs care for patients in their office at 887 Congress Street. MaineHealth Surgical Services is a busy multi physician surgical specialty practice. The NP/PA works with a team of physicians, APPs, RNs, MAs/ANAs to support the clinical needs of the practice. We have a collaborative and supportive team that is excited to welcome a new team member and facilitate their education, and to build upon an already established skill set. This position will involve seeing new patient consults, triage, seeing post-ops and follow up appointments, giving operative education, and some in-office procedures, including FNA, Ultrasound Guided injections. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Current nursing license issued by the State of Maine or eligible for licensure
  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • BSN required; MSN preferred
  • Minimum three years of professional nursing experience
  • Two years of Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant experience preferred but not required
  • Current BLS certification
  • Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing, professional nursing theory, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care
  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status
  • Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking and other organizational matters
  • Ability to make responsible decisions within scope of NP Practice
  • Ability to educate patients, families, and staff in user-friendly manner
  • Strong computer skills with skill in using computerized health information management system
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
