About The Position

Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to work in our Dermatology Department. Join the Dermatology Department in a full‑time, Monday through Friday, days position at our Acute Care Dermatology site in Winfield. This role is dedicated to providing timely evaluation and management of acute dermatologic concerns, ensuring patients receive rapid access to high‑quality medical dermatology care. With no weekends and no cosmetic procedures, this position allows you to focus exclusively on medical and acute dermatology in a supportive, collaborative, patient‑centered environment. Essential Functions: Provide high‑quality care through the diagnosis and management of acute dermatologic conditions. Manage health outcomes for an assigned patient population. Collaborate closely with supervising physicians and multidisciplinary clinical partners. Develop educational resources for patients, families, and staff. Participate in dermatology‑related quality improvement initiatives and/or research. Perform comprehensive assessments including health histories and physical exams. Prescribe medications, order and interpret laboratory and imaging studies per privileging guidelines. Deliver patient education, document all care provided, and coordinate referrals when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board. Once licensed may apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number OR Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program/Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois.   • Privileged and credentialed through the Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office (MSO)
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation – BLS, issued by the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations in clinical area.
  • Provides direct clinical care to patients.
  • Prescribes/orders medications, therapies; orders/interprets laboratory tests, x-rays and procedures according to clinical privileges.

  • Provides comprehensive teaching strategies for patients and their families.
  • Develops and participates in programs to meet continuing education needs of staff.
