About The Position

The University of Minnesota Physicians is seeking a Certified Nurse Practitioner or a Certified Physician Assistant to join their Critical Care service at the University of Minnesota Medical Center-West Bank campus. This role involves providing inpatient care for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit and leading the adult West Bank Rapid Response team. The position requires strong collaboration skills and the ability to make rapid assessment and treatment decisions autonomously, while working closely with attending physicians.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or formal Adult Nurse Practitioner training program.
  • Licensed with prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Medical Practice (PAs) or MN APRN license with prescriptive authority through MN Board of Nursing (NP's).
  • Certified or eligible for certification through ANCC, AANP or NCCPA.
  • Experienced in a critical care environment.
  • Able to manage a variety of situations, staff, and environments using leadership skills.
  • Strong knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and acute care treatment of patients.
  • Able to lead Code Blue, Rapid Response, and Stroke Codes.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an inpatient PA or NP.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient care for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit.
  • Function as a provider with the West Bank critical care team managing a 10-bed mixed medical-surgical ICU.
  • Lead the adult West Bank Rapid Response team.
  • Provide urgent and emergent response and evaluation for treatment of adult patients.
  • Make rapid assessment and treatment decisions in accordance with current standards of care.
  • Consult specialists as appropriate and facilitate patients receiving appropriate level of care.
  • Perform with outstanding collaboration abilities and acquire privileges in relevant procedures.
  • Respond to events, expedite assessments, and create a differential diagnosis and treatment plan quickly.
