About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position at UAB Cardiology Ambulatory Clinics is open to Family Nurse Practitioners, Adult Primary Nurse Practitioners, Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioners, or Physician Assistants. This PRN position will involve both in-person and telemedicine clinic visits for patients with cardiac conditions, including coronary disease and structural or valvular abnormalities. The role may also include opportunities to work in satellite clinics at The Kirklin Clinic, Acton Road, Gardendale, and UAB Highlands. Candidates must be able to navigate fast-paced clinics with multiple providers.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing with a Family NP, Adult Primary NP, or Adult Acute Care NP certification or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants required.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience as an APP in Cardiology is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates and implements comprehensive patient care plans based on thorough physical and psychosocial assessments.
  • Ensures complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and other diagnostic tests for patients.
  • Maintains records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
  • May coordinate and/or participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
  • Assists in the coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and liaison between patients and other healthcare providers.
  • Provides assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel.
  • Serves as the expert clinical resource to clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Demonstrates a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
