About The Position

The Johns Hopkins Hospital Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPCU) is a 32 bed adult surgical intermediate care unit. The patient population consists of critically ill pre and post-op patients that will undergo or have undergone cardiac surgical interventions including, but not limited to, coronary artery bypass, valve replacements and repairs, Type A aortic dissections and heart or lung transplantation. Schedule: Permanent Night Shifts (applicable differential applied) Including weekends and holidays

Requirements

  • Master's degree as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Active, unrestricted ACNP or PA-C license and certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in critical care, preferably in a cardiovascular surgical intensive care unit.
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the CVPCU including assessment, diagnosis, and management of postoperative cardiovascular patients.
  • Perform invasive procedures, including but not limited to central line placement, arterial line placement, chest tube removal and pacer wire removal.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients in the CVPCU.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans, and evaluate patient responses to interventions.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding their condition, treatment options, and discharge planning.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and research projects to enhance patient care and outcomes in the CVPCU.
