About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the NICU at St. Vincent's Birmingham is responsible for providing individualized primary healthcare services in collaboration with a physician. This role involves diagnosing and treating acute or chronic health conditions, performing assessments, and managing patient care in a specialized environment.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider credential from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire or transfer.
  • Master's degree in Nursing required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a physician to expand individualized primary healthcare services.
  • Diagnose and treat acute or chronic health conditions.
  • Obtain patient history and perform assessments through observation, interview, and examination.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies.
  • Conduct preventative health assessments, screenings, immunizations, and patient care.
  • Provide direct treatment and management of health conditions through prescriptive authority or referrals.
  • Counsel and educate patients and their families/caregivers on preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.
  • Document healthcare delivery and nursing processes according to specialty area standards and network nursing policy.
