About The Position

GENERAL SUMMARY : The Maternal Fetal Medicine advanced practice provider will work in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of maternal fetal medicine physicians, nurses, sonographers, referring providers, neonatologists, and genetic counselors, to provide care to patients referred to the Maternal Fetal Medicine Service at Hurley Medical Center in Flint Michigan. This care will include but is not limited to: the assessment, consultation, development of plans of care in collaboration with the MFM Attending Provider in the inpatient and outpatient settings. This provider will also participate in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Completes all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior. SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Works under the administrative supervision of the Senior Administrator of Ambulatory Services and Clinical Coordinator for Outpatient Clinic. Patient care responsibilities will be determined in collaboration and mutual agreement of the Medical Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES : Initial consultation and follow-up of patients with medical complications of pregnancy in collaboration with the Attending MFM Provider. Collaboration of care with other specialties as clinically indicated to coordinate patient care to optimize the medical conditions during the pregnancy and postpartum period. Inpatient rounds with the resident service as agreed upon. Assists in obtaining the clinically indicated care for patients cared for on the MFM outpatient unit. Education of patient regarding the importance of care for the individual medical conditions. Assists with communication between patients and families and members of the health care team. Assists in program development to better meet patient needs. Assists in planning and presentation of interdisciplinary team educational conferences. Helps to identify health needs of patient and serves as an advocate of health in the community. Maintains expertise in the area of responsibility through appropriate educational/organizational activities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and completion of preceptorship.
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Licensed in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner in a specialty area of Nursing from the State of Michigan.
  • Certified BLS provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross obtained within 18 months prior to hire date or job transfer date or Certified Instructor.
  • At least two (2) years experience in the care of patients in a health care facility in desired clinical sub-specialty area.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious relationships with patients, families, public, physicians and other personnel.
