About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Emergency Department at Madison Hospital is responsible for providing comprehensive direct patient care in collaboration with attending physicians and a multidisciplinary team. This full-time position involves obtaining patient histories, performing diagnostic tests, interpreting results, and participating in procedural assistance. The NP will also engage in health maintenance, patient education, and follow-up care, while contributing to indirect patient care responsibilities such as staff education and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Certified Nurse Practitioner with a Master's degree in Nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current registration with the Alabama Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners or current Alabama PA license.
• BLS certification required by the end of the orientation period.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with electronic medical records preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in an emergency department setting.
• Familiarity with EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Obtain comprehensive patient histories and physicals related to chief complaints.
• Order and perform appropriate diagnostic testing and screenings.
• Interpret lab and imaging results to accurately diagnose illnesses.
• Determine next steps for treatment and specialty consultation.
• Participate in procedural assistance as indicated by diagnosis.
• Engage in health maintenance and promotion, including patient and family education.
• Collaborate with attending physician for disposition planning, including discharge or specialty consultation.
• Contribute to indirect patient care responsibilities, including staff and student education, clinical research, and quality improvement.
