About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Inpatient Solid Oncology at UCLA Health plays a critical role in providing advanced nursing care to patients undergoing treatment for solid tumors. This position involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary medical care management team to ensure effective patient care, performing comprehensive assessments, and managing treatment regimens based on standardized procedures. The NP will also engage in patient education, coordinate admissions, and support the nursing team with ongoing education about oncologic disease states and treatment complexities.

Requirements

  • Valid CA RN and CA NP License
  • MSN/DNP in Adult Acute Care (AG-ACNP) NP Specialty
  • National Certification in NP Specialty
  • BLS certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • NP Furnishing with Schedule II
  • NPI #, DEA #, Enrollment in PECOS, Enrollment in CURES
  • Oncology experience as a Nurse Practitioner (strongly preferred)
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Skill in working independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to set priorities effectively
  • Demonstrated writing skills for clear correspondence
  • Ability to document patient care concisely and comprehensively

Responsibilities

  • Implement standardized procedures to change treatment regimens based on patient observations.
  • Provide advanced nursing care to inpatients on the solid oncology service.
  • Act as a liaison between nursing staff, residents, fellows, and physicians.
  • Perform daily rounds on assigned solid oncology inpatients to ensure adherence to protocols/orders.
  • Coordinate patient admissions with attending physicians.
  • Execute chart orders and coordinate with consultants.
  • Perform and document comprehensive history and physical examinations on all assigned inpatients.
  • Interpret diagnostic data and formulate care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Manage pharmacological treatments and provide follow-up care.
  • Educate patients about their disease processes and treatment outcomes.
  • Communicate updates with outpatient oncology attendings and primary care physicians.
  • Assist discharge coordinators in the discharge process.
  • Provide ongoing education to the nursing team about oncologic treatments and care plans.
  • Dictate consultation notes, discharge summaries, and letters regarding patient care.
  • Screen telephone calls from patients and families regarding care.
  • Participate in lectures, rounds, conferences, and workshops.
  • Assist in developing research protocols and clinical trials.
  • Provide administrative support for physicians and assist in developing critical care pathways.
  • Implement information technology solutions in the inpatient setting.
  • Cross-train between Solid Oncology and Heme Malignancies services as needed.
