About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner II at Kaiser Permanente is responsible for assessing and managing patient care within the designated service area. This role involves conducting physical examinations, collaborating with healthcare teams, and ensuring quality patient care in accordance with established protocols. The NP will report to the Chief of the designated service and the Department Manager, playing a crucial role in the coordination and delivery of healthcare services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a nurse practitioner.
  • Two years of experience as a NP providing specialized care in an emergency department or urgent care setting within the past three years.
  • Masters Degree in Nursing (unless grandfathered in prior to January 1, 2008).
  • Completion of a Masters Program in Family Practice NP or Acute Care NP required.
  • Registered Nurse License (California).
  • Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number (California).
  • Nurse Practitioner Certificate (California).
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Nurse Practitioner National Certificate.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.

Responsibilities

  • Practices under established NP procedures consistent with Kaiser Permanente policy and California Board of Registered Nursing requirements.
  • Conducts age-appropriate assessments of patients, including history taking and physical examinations.
  • Performs ongoing systematic assessment/data collection focusing on various patient statuses and education.
  • Consults with supervising physician or other clinicians based on patient needs and assessment findings.
  • Participates with physicians and other clinicians to ensure effective patient care consistent with quality indicators.
  • Reviews medical records for follow-up or ordering of diagnostic studies under established protocols.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with other healthcare providers to ensure operational efficiency and continuity of care.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families, respecting cultural and ethical beliefs.
  • Delegates and coordinates duties of healthcare team members, evaluating the effectiveness of care provided.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of safety principles and performs efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols.
  • Participates in staff development activities and demonstrates knowledge of legal issues in patient care.
  • Engages in unit and department Performance Improvement activities and nursing research as requested.
  • Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Proficiently uses computers and telecommunication modalities for documentation and information sharing.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.
