About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) at the Sexual Health Clinic (SHC) of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is responsible for providing comprehensive patient-centered clinical care focused on sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV prevention, and sexual health education. The NP will work under the supervision of the Medical Director and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care for diverse patient populations, including those who are uninsured or underinsured, and those with substance use disorders. This role is part-time, flexible, and grant-funded, with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited NP school and board-certified.
  • Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts RN license with authorization to practice in the expanded role (NP).
  • Must have or be eligible for and maintain a current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration (MCSR).
  • Qualified in basic life support standards as established by the American Heart Association.
  • Experience in sexual health, infectious disease, community health, or substance use disorder treatment preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and/or Portuguese is strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to the Sexual Health Clinic patient population.
  • Functions independently in clinic and manages/coordinates all aspects of patient care.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Prescribes medications as necessary according to organizational and state/federal regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Achieves and maintains proficiency in point-of-care tests related to sexual health, including gram stain and wet mount microscopy.
  • Initiates consultations and referrals for patients.
  • Consults with the supervising physician regarding abnormal findings outside the NP's scope of practice.
  • Documents in the medical record and complies with hospital standards of care.
  • Participates in departmental and organizational committees and programs as appropriate.
