YesCare Nurse Practitioners provide direct care to inmates in the correctional institution and provide emergency care to staff while observing and maintaining the requirements of security. They provide appropriate health care to inmates, diagnose and treat inmates within their scope of practice, and perform routine history and physical (H&P) examinations where applicable. Nurse Practitioners order and, if necessary, perform laboratory studies, X-rays, examinations, and electrocardiograms, as appropriate. They initiate consultation requests and non-formulary requests with supervisory physician's approval, educate inmates relative to medical conditions, use of drugs, diet, weight control, effects of prescribed treatment, etc. Additionally, they document all patient contacts in medical records using Problem Oriented Medical Record format and SOAP charting, maintain confidentiality of medical records, order medications while adhering to the established formulary, participate in the data collection of the CQI program, and participate in the CQI committee as needed. Other duties and responsibilities may be requested by the supervisor.
