About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Physician Assistant position at Cleveland Clinic's Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) involves providing primary and specialty care in a fast-paced emergency medicine environment. The role emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, and the management of acute and chronic health issues, while collaborating with a healthcare team to ensure quality patient care. The provider will primarily manage patients in the CDU and assist in the Emergency Department as needed, focusing on patient observation, discharge planning, and education.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in applicable state(s).
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant by a recognized organization.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required based on work setting.
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification may be required based on work setting.
  • Current DEA License or DEA designee as required by NCQA.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Emergency Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough medical histories and perform complete physical examinations.
  • Initiate appropriate lab, radiology tests, or other special tests required for evaluation of illness.
  • Scrutinize lab data to establish a record of the patient's current health status and develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Work in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Perform and interpret common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic, and other routine diagnostic procedures.
  • Perform routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee.
  • Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by license.
  • Educate patients and answer questions regarding their disease, treatments, and related drug side effects.
  • Participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with nursing and medical team members.
  • Refer patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or specialized health resources.
  • Ensure continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patients and other members of the care team.
  • Participate in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes.
  • Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support professional development of the healthcare team and promote evidence-based practices.
  • Conduct research studies and assist in data collection and analysis.
  • Serve as clinical preceptor for students and onboard new caregivers.
