About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner in the Cardiac Cath Lab at Mount Sinai Hospital is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients with cardiac conditions. This role involves assessing patient health, initiating diagnostic procedures, prescribing medications, and educating patients on health management. The NP operates independently within their specialty, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care. The position requires a strong commitment to professional development and adherence to ethical standards in nursing practice.

Requirements

  • New York State License with current registration as a registered nurse.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education or equivalent.
  • Completion of a pharmacy component and instruction in New York State and Federal Laws relating to prescriptions.
  • Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician if less than 3600 hours of NP experience.
  • Master's degree program designed to prepare a NP for their specialty area of practice.
  • Previous progressive experience relevant to clinical practice required.
  • National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing required for NPs hired after June 1, 2019.
  • Credentialed through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and other specialty certifications as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a cardiac care setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Bilingual skills to communicate with diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the health status of patients/families through comprehensive health history and physical examination.
  • Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations.
  • Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings to alter the plan of care as needed.
  • Educate and counsel patients in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of illnesses.
  • Document findings and plans of care in the patient's medical record.
  • Consult with physicians according to established standards and protocols.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care.
  • Participate in team meetings to enhance interdisciplinary care delivery.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in information management.
  • Develop plans of care based on diagnoses and individual patient needs.
  • Perform patient record reviews with collaborating physicians as required.
  • Complete evaluations for continued credentialing status as required by Medical Staff.
  • Practice according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and hospital bylaws.
