About The Position

Provide advanced practice nursing care specializing in behavioral health for patients across the lifespan in an ambulatory clinic and/or hospital setting. Responsibilities include psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, therapeutic intervention, and coordination of care with the interdisciplinary team. The NP/PMHNP plays a key role in improving access to behavioral health services and ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Master s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program
  • Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state of New Mexico (or eligibility for licensure)
  • Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) preferred, or NP with documented behavioral health training and experience
  • Current DEA registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings strongly preferred
  • Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Wear identification while on duty.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
  • Conduct psychiatric and behavioral health evaluations for new and established patients
  • Diagnose and manage mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, psychosis, and mood disorders
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications in accordance with evidence-based practice and state/federal guidelines
  • Provide brief therapeutic interventions and supportive counseling as appropriate
  • Collaborate with physicians, social workers, therapists, and nursing staff to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans
  • Educate patients and families regarding psychiatric diagnoses, treatment options, and medication management
  • Ensure continuity of care by coordinating referrals to specialty providers and community resources
  • Document all patient encounters in the electronic health record in a timely and accurate manner
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements in accordance with state regulations
  • Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and cultural sensitivity in all patient and staff interactions
  • Serve as a resource for staff education on behavioral health topics and evidence-based practices
  • Provide crisis intervention and support in urgent or emergent psychiatric situations
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
