About The Position

To centralize and ensure safe, compliant, nurse-led medication dispensing for all youth on campus through accurate preparation, administration, reconciliation, documentation, monitoring, and inventory control of all medications, including controlled substances.

Requirements

  • Current NYS Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse(RN) license (copy required upon hire)
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License
  • Yearly physical (required within 1 month of hire)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated competency in medication administration and reconciliation
  • Ability to work with a diverse population presenting a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, developmental, and sexual identities. Must have the ability and willingness to establish and foster healthy and supportive relationships that acknowledge individual identities and encourage personal growth.
  • Must successfully complete all required background checks: NYS Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) Multi-State Sex Offender Registry (SOR) NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) fingerprinting NYS Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL) NYS OMIG Medicaid Exclusion List Out-of-state child abuse register inquiry of any state in which the person resided within the last five years (if applicable) NYS License Event Notification Service (LENS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) NYS Professions – Professional License Check
  • Must successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
  • Ability to move between multiple campus buildings
  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during medication passes

  • Experience managing controlled substances

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a courteous, respectful, and professional demeanor at all times when interacting with residents, internal staff, nursing and medical personnel, external healthcare providers, hospitals, parents, and other professionals involved in the coordination and delivery of resident medical care
  • Prepare, dispense, administer, and reconcile all prescribed and PRN medications in accordance with NYS scope of practice, Article 29-I regulations, physician orders, pharmacy labeling, and the Electronic Medication Administration Record (E-MAR). This includes strict adherence to the Seven Rights of Medication Administration and immediate documentation following administration
  • Obtain anthropometric measurements (height, weight, and BMI) and vital signs as ordered, including monitoring required for psychiatric, controlled, or specialty medications.
  • Monitor residents for medication side effects, adverse reactions, refusal patterns, or therapeutic response concerns and report findings to the Nursing Supervisor(s), Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, or Medical Director as appropriate
  • Document all medication administration, refusals, medication errors, reconciliation processes, controlled substance counts, and related services accurately and in real time within the Electronic Health Record (Welligent)
  • Observe and report changes in residents' physical or behavioral health status, including concerns related to medication compliance, controlled substance discrepancies, or treatment response
  • Maintain clinic cleanliness, ensure secure medication storage (including double-locked controlled substances), conduct required medication inventories, reconcile blister cards and vials with inventory records and E-MAR documentation, and ensure proper disposal of expired or discontinued medications
  • Assist with receiving, verifying, signing for, and accounting for medication shipments, including controlled substances; initiate and maintain required utilization logs and narcotic tracking forms in compliance with NYS DOH and DEA regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director or Nursing Supervisor(s)
  • Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties in accordance with every safety standard, practice, and policy of The William George Agency; this includes, but is not limited to, review of The William George Agency's Safety Policy and attending all required safety-related training
  • Adhere to all rules, regulations, policies, and philosophy of The William George Agency and The Office of Children and Family Services
