About The Position

Responsible for the daily management of assigned unit to include staff supervision and development, planning, budget, quality, and facility operations and coordinating patient services to ensure high quality patient care and optimal outcomes.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
  • Must have 4+ years of professional nursing experience.
  • Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing, or valid Compact RN license.
  • Must have current Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification on hire or placement in the role.
  • Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily unit activities to ensure high quality patient care and optimal outcomes.
  • Communicate with physicians, social work and other department staff to promote integrated, effective care.
  • Serve as patient advocate, follow up on patient care issues and outcomes, oversee/arrange discharge support.
  • Document and supervise unit/patient information including charts, surveys, reports, research, correspondence, statistics and quarterly reports.
  • Select, train, supervise, motivate and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Assess patient needs and staff capabilities, scheduling staff to ensure maximum utilization.
  • Ensure assigned staff receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
  • Serve as a role model and resource, evaluate staff competencies and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Direct staff meetings, interviews, train, counsel and provide other personnel activities.
  • Maintain skills and promote staff development.
  • Integrate knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Serve as an educational resource for patients, families and Parkland staff.
  • Establish and maintain effective unit procedures.
  • Develop and evaluate staff activities to promote knowledge of all rules, regulations, policies, procedures, laws and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Directors, Quality/Risk Management and Nursing Administration.
  • Maintain communication on hospital wide practices through committee participation.
  • Ensure positive working relationships within a collaborative work team.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, students, and other departments.
  • Responsible for performance improvement practices on the unit.
  • Collaborate with staff, physicians, administration and risk management to evaluate and improve patient services.
  • Identify and analyze the design of jobs, work processes and flows in the unit.
  • Oversee effective facility management as measured by cleanliness and functioning of equipment.
  • Develop and administer the annual budget to ensure necessary funds for unit goals.
  • Monitor charges and supplies, initiate orders, requisitions and supervise capital improvements.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate unit annual goals and personal goals.
  • Serve on multidisciplinary and Departmental committees as selected and assigned.
