About The Position

The Radiology Nursing (RADU) department is searching for a dynamic leader who drives clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and team engagement. This role leads and energizes monthly RADU staff meetings, identifies trends, and partners with the Nurse Education Coordinator (NEC) to address evolving educational needs. As the Nurse Manager you will build and manage schedules, ensuring appropriate weekday, weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage to maintain seamless patient care. Collaboration is central to this position. You will work closely with department leadership, ED and inpatient nursing teams, division leaders, and anesthesia partners to solve problems creatively, strengthen communication, and enhance the moderate sedation program. They actively support embedded nurses and identify opportunities to improve productivity and workflow. With strong operational oversight, you will monitor productivity metrics, review worktime, and ensure accurate Kronos coding. The role also champions safety and regulatory readiness, partnering with leadership on BeSafe initiatives and Joint Commission preparedness efforts. Engaged and visible, you will participate in bi-weekly or monthly touchpoints with Medical Directors and attends hospital-based manager meetings, inpatient nurse manager meetings, CSC sessions, and Radiology leadership forums. Through purposeful rounding, you will ensure all areas are appropriately staffed and supported. The leader we are searching for is deeply committed to people development. They oversee onboarding processes, including OCA, RCA, and DSC completion and Workday documentation, monitor recruitment workflows and requisitions, conduct annual evaluations, and establish meaningful goals for new hires. Focused on retention, hiring, and promotion, you will need to build a strong, empowered team positioned for long-term success. Manages and supports the day to day operations of assigned patient care area(s). Supervises all nurses and support staff including but not limited to Registered Nurses Patient Care Assistants and Technicians Health Unit Coordinators and related clerical staff. Oversees the preparation of schedules utilizing wage and flex staff as appropriate. Adjusts according to patient flow. Accurately forecasts and manages budget for the unit and ensures that any expenditures are within the budget. Knowledge of related benchmarks such as Paid hour per patient day and Worked hour per patient day. Develops programs which address continuous quality improvement system enhancement streamlined processes patience experience and overall nurse performance. Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements specific to the unit supervised. Ensures that the highest quality nursing care is provided to patients and their families. Develops and manages partnerships with clinicians physicians and administrative counterparts to achieve common goals. Promotes integration of multidisciplinary work groups. Manages recruitment performance team member engagement and retention activities of assigned staff. Implement the UVA shared governance nursing model at the unit level ensuring shared decision making that affects nursing practice quality improvement professional development and research.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from accredited nursing program, Master's degree in related field within 5 years of hire.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of progressively more responsible experience as a registered nurse in a patient care environment required.
  • For Dialysis Nurse Manager: As required by job be a full-time employee of the facility; have at least 12 months of experience in clinical nursing, and an additional 6 months of experience in providing nursing care to patients on maintenance dialysis.
  • Licensure: License to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Valid Virginia Driver’s license required for managers with responsibility operations in multiple locations. Must have applicable specialty certification at hire or within 3 years .
