Requirements

  • Current nurse's license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact member states/territories.
  • Associate's degree is required.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Basic Trauma Nurse Course (BTNC) or equivalent training (ATCN, TCRN, TNCC) obtained within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Integrates the department/services into the organization's primary functions.
  • Coordinates and integrates interdepartmental and intra departmental services.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
  • Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care/service.
  • Determines the qualifications and competence of department/service staff who provide patient care services.
  • Continuously assesses and improves the performance of care and services provided.
  • Maintains quality control programs, as appropriate.
  • Orients and provides in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the department/service.
  • Recommends space and other resources needed by the department/service.
  • Participates in the selection of sources for needed services not provided by the department/service or the organization.
  • Utilizes the Five Pillars (People, Service Excellence, Clinical Excellence, Fiscal and Growth) to prioritize and facilitate departmental and organizational activities.
  • Interviews, selects, and provides for training of employees.
  • Recommends reduction in employee complement and initiates action, notifies employee(s) if conditions meet specific criteria.
  • Independently evaluates and determines work assignments and evaluates job performance.
  • Exercises employee suspensions or discharges authority.
  • Assigns and directs work, grants overtime; assigns & schedules.
  • Meets with employees to listen to and resolve employee issues and adjust grievances.
  • Implements disciplinary action.
  • Develops and implements department and/or hospital policy; insures all employees are trained in policy.
  • Performs organizational strategic planning for all areas of responsibility.
  • Directs the overall operations, efficiency, fiscal management and strategic planning of the assigned departments in the service line.
  • Develops and monitors budgets.
  • Analyzes profit and loss statements.
  • Determines root causes of budget variances and responds appropriately.
  • Takes appropriate steps to continuously analyze and improve operations.
  • Directs strategic planning activities.
