About The Position

The Patient Care Manager (Pod Manager) is responsible for managing, coordinating and monitoring the patient care delivery system within their area of responsibility/Pod. Each Pod will consist of service specific teams that will be coordinated by the Pod Manager. Develop Performance Improvement goals and facilitate staff, surgeon and anesthesia personnel toward achieving these goals. Teamwork, scheduling practices, educational needs, recognition, patient safety, operational efficiencies, and communication will be assessed and developed. Active involvement with the OR Manager, Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Schedulers and SPD staff to concurrently and proactively manage patient flow. Communication with other Pod Managers is imperative to provide overall OR efficiency. Manage the Pod in a cost effective manner, consistent with the financial goals of the organization. Develop systems to ensure instrumentation is available for surgeries and that instruments are returned to SPD in optimal condition. Monitor services provided and collaborate in developing methods to improve utilization and efficiency. Include staff, surgeons and anesthesia in decision making related to Pod. Manages nursing and administrative operations in specific patient care areas. Implements changes to patient workflows and operational processes. Maintains 24 hour line management responsibility for the administration of fiscal, material and human resources. Direct reports are typically supervisor level. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $242,292 - $273,617 (Annual Rate). Requirements

  • Five (5) years of Perioperative OR experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher level degree of nursing education required
  • Call is required and being available 24/7 for emergencies
  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, critical events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making.
  • Strong leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines.
  • Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives.
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
