• Overall responsibility for all aspects of perioperative operations including the daily schedule, staff assignments, OR efficiency and throughput. • Designs and implements staffing patterns responsive to a dynamic care setting with fluctuating volume. • Interviews, hires and oversees the orientation of new employees. Collaborates with Human Resources on personnel management and recruitment and retention strategies. • Assesses plans, develops, implements, evaluates and revises education programs to meet the clinical needs of staff or to comply with federal, state, regulatory or organizational policy. • Provides ongoing formal and informal feedback regarding the performance of staff members. • Assures all staff members follow regulatory standards; ie; licensure, orientation, ongoing education and annual competencies. • Develops indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care. • Responsible for identifying patient care problems and initiating appropriate problem resolution processes, assessing nursing unit needs, completing staff evaluations. • Exemplifies a high standard of customer service. • Participates and contributes to Process Improvement activities across the service line. Uses current data to identify issues and opportunities. Shares data with staff, Physicians and leadership. • Serves on nursing committees, hospital committees and professional nursing organizations. • Participates in all nursing supervisory activities including throughput and call. • Fosters good public relations for unit, department and hospital. • Serves as clinical resource person and assists nursing personnel in assessing patient/family status to plan nursing care. • Communicates with family members and health professionals regarding care of patients. • Serves as patient advocate within guidelines found in the patient Bill of Rights. • Promotes open communication within the unit, department, other units and departments. • Plans unit staff meetings. Provides input and standards in formulating patient care policy and procedures. Works with medical staff to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care. Utilizes and promotes Quality Improvement standards and practice. • Performs other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
