How You Will Fulfill Your Potential Responsibilities: Operational Management: Manages the clinical and environmental operations of the unit or service line Develops, implements, and evaluates systems to support quality and safe patient care Develops staff schedules and peak census plans and communicates those to the staffing office Review patient surveys and feedback and creates action plans to address patient satisfaction issues Makes staffing decisions and adjustments on a shift-by-shift basis in collaboration with the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Supervisor, and Nursing Director as needed Responsible for the planning, development and implementation of the annual budget Develops and implements action plans in response to variances Oversees the pay practices of staff and the systems that support payroll and benefits Management, Leadership, and Development of Staff: Demonstrates principles of evidence-based leadership Manages all aspects of the staff to include hiring, supervising, counseling, professional development, discipline, and competency/performance evaluation, including clinical evaluations of nursing staff with matrix relationships Coordinates the orientation process of new staff in collaboration with the educator/CNS Develops staff and facilitates learning opportunities that meet staff and unit/service line needs Serve as a clinical resource and acts as a role model and mentor Develops the agenda and conduct monthly staff meetings Oversees the work of the unit-based council and acts as council advisor Ensures clinical staff are part of the Nursing Shared Leadership council structure Conducts timely performance evaluations Other Management Responsibilities: Responsible for the coordination of performance improvement initiatives for the unit/service based on data from NDNQI for nurse-sensitive quality indicators and data from Press Ganey for patient satisfaction metrics Creates and initiates action plans to address gaps in quality or safe patient care Initiates investigations/reviews, and create action plans in response to incidents as well as patient and customer concerns Communicate significant information to Key stake holders and Staff in a timely and appropriate manner Responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and procedures, protocols and standards of care, practice and performance Assist in planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate policies, procedures, protocols, standards of care, practice, and performance Contribute to the efficiency and professional environment of the unit/service line through support of objectives and strategic initiatives, participation in unit/Nursing Services activities, meetings, continued education programs and quality improvements initiatives Utilizes the electronic medical record according to established standards. Offers system improvements as indicated Maintain clinical expertise by active networking, or with membership with professional and/or specialty organizations, and continuing education
