About The Position

The Nurse Manager of Operations for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Duke University Hospital is responsible for managing and coordinating patient care and personnel needs within a 20-bed unit in a Level I trauma center. This role involves planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating healthcare services and programs, while ensuring exemplary patient experiences and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and possess a commitment to professional development and quality improvement.

Requirements

  • 3 years of nursing experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or current compact RN licensure to practice in North Carolina required.
  • BLS (or higher) certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • MSN preferred.
  • Prior management experience highly preferred, including extensive charge nurse or team lead experience.
  • Clinical quality management and service management skills.
  • Knowledge of budget and financial concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate patient care and personnel needs.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate ambulatory health care services, programs, and activities.
  • Manage various personnel actions including hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, promotions, and scheduling.
  • Collaborate in the development, implementation, and expansion of learning opportunities and skill development.
  • Analyze, develop, and maintain an effective nursing care delivery system that reflects patient and family needs.
  • Communicate and collaborate with multiple disciplines and departments focusing on access and strategic growth.
  • Promote education for patients, patient families, and the community; participate in direct patient care activities.
  • Identify clinical operational needs; manage equipment and supplies and monitor equipment maintenance.
  • Assess the environment and make recommendations to ensure optimal patient comfort, safety, and compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate to determine fiscal requirements; submit budgetary recommendations for nursing personnel and patient care materials.
  • Cultivate exemplary customer service throughout the organization; promote effective communication skills.
  • Develop and implement processes to enhance clinic operations and practices for ongoing quality improvement.
  • Develop, document, implement, and monitor written policies and procedures.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop top nursing talent.
