About The Position

The Nurse Manager for the Inpatient Emergency Department (ED) role is responsible for overseeing unit management and ensuring the quality of patient care within the designated unit. This position operates under the mission and strategic goals of the ALMH and Nursing Division, emphasizing a shared leadership philosophy. The Nurse Manager is accountable for creating a collaborative work environment, maintaining effective communication, and ensuring that nursing staff are competent in providing safe, evidence-based care. This role also involves fostering positive relationships with physicians and other departments, as well as promoting employee morale and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Current Illinois RN licensure required.
  • BSN required within 2 years of hire date.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • At least three years of experience as a registered nurse with progressive leadership/management skills.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the ANCC Pathways to Excellence Recognition Program model and standards.
  • Understanding of nurse-sensitive quality indicators and hospital/nursing regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assume 24-hour accountability for unit management and quality of patient care.
  • Create and maintain a conducive work environment for effective communication and collaboration.
  • Ensure compliance with the Pathways to Excellence Program requirements.
  • Maintain positive relationships with physicians and interdepartmental staff.
  • Coordinate patient care management with unit staff and nursing supervisors.
  • Serve as a leader, mentor, and patient advocate for nursing staff.
  • Encourage and develop future nursing leaders as part of succession planning.
  • Facilitate open communication and information sharing among staff.
  • Participate in Nurse Management Council and Department Managers' meetings.
