About The Position

The Nurse Manager is a registered nurse who functions as a patient care provider, supervisor, and clinical resource for home infusion nurses. The Nurse Manager coordinates and implements management and clinical activities to ensure that the nursing process is operationalized utilizing Standards of Care/Standards of Practice. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the performance of the home infusion nurses and auxiliary nursing personnel, and critical in acting as a bridge between nursing and pharmacy. Primary responsibilities include ensuring the provision of patient care in the home infusion setting is consistent with department/hospital and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program (BSN) required.
  • Work requires current Massachusetts RN license. Certification in related specialty areas encouraged.
  • Work requires a minimum of three to five years clinical experience.
  • Analytical abilities required to organize, supervise and evaluate the work of others, to develop, interpret, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures and standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to guide, direct, mentor, train and work collaboratively in a team building environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with strong leadership abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information.
  • Work requires physical ability to perform the core job responsibilities in accordance with practice setting demands for patient populations regularly served.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and indirect skilled nursing care to home infusion patients, which may include but not limited to: Implementation of physician orders, Patient assessment, Patient and caregiver teaching, Skilled nursing care, Monitoring of patient response, Response to emergency patient needs.
  • Performs management duties in collaboration with the pharmacy director to achieve and maintain quality services and positive employee relations.
  • Assumes overall management nursing team within established policies, procedures, labor and supply budgets in the absence of the nurse director.
  • Supervises (hires, evaluates, and disciplines) all RN and non-RN staff according to established personnel policies, procedures and union contracts.
  • Initiates and facilitates problem solving by timely identification and communication of staff and patient care issues and solutions to nurse director.
  • Assures that staff schedules are completed and posted in accordance with nursing department policies, procedures and union contract requirements.
  • Acquires, maintains, and utilizes knowledge of current labor contracts and personnel policies and procedures, initiates timely and appropriate management interventions, inclusive of coaching, counseling and progressive discipline.
  • Conducts independent investigation of employees incidents involving clinical practice issues including review of employee personnel file, discipline record and evaluations. Imposes appropriate disciplinary action when needed.
  • Promotes and facilitates staff's professional development to ensure team members provide quality nursing care.
  • Promotes staff development and clinical competency by facilitating staff attendance of in-services, appropriate outside conferences, and department committees.
  • Promotes own professional development by attendance at conferences with a management/clinical focus.
  • Develops staff assignments for patient care taking into consideration individual staff abilities and learning needs.
  • Works collaboratively with the pharmacy director/clinical instructor to establish, facilitate and coordinate a preceptor program.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and on committees to ensure that Standard of Care/Practice are evaluated and met.
  • Completes quality improvement/risk management projects in collaboration with the nurse manager.
  • Participates in assigned committees and communicates timely information to pharmacy director and staff.
  • Promotes practice that is in compliance with appropriate statues and regulations (i.e., DPH, Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.).
  • Coordinates clinical activities to ensure safe and efficient functioning based on patient needs.
  • Collaborates with appropriate team members to promote a smooth flow of patients through the hospital system.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to promote care appropriate to the age groups of patients regularly served.
  • Promotes and maintains effective professional relationships with all healthcare team members to ensure that patient care issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Acts as a clinical role model to staff through provision of direct patient care in accordance with appropriate department policies and procedures.
  • Promotes the Nursing Department's mission, professional practice model, and Magnet culture.
  • Interprets/translates for patients/families/visitors when needed and when conversant in his/her native language.
  • Requests Interpretive Services when needed.
  • Utilizes hospital's Values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
