Full-time 40-hours a week. Working in a busy Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) with multiple providers and multidisciplinary team members, the nurse manager is a highly motivated, innovative, ambitious registered nurse with strong communication skills who will work collaboratively with a dynamic clinical team to ensure competent, compassionate, individualized, nursing care for patients and their families in both the clinic and research settings. Under the general supervision of the Senior Manager for Advanced Practice Providers and Nursing/Associate ALS Clinic Director, the incumbent will serve as Nurse Manager for the Healey Center for ALS. Principal Duties & Responsibilities: Management/administrative oversight (approximately 60%) Manages the day-to-day Healey Center Nursing Team (including other nurses who manage clinical research coordinators) and provides oversight for the clinical research coordinators and interns. • Serve as a day to day clinical leader for resource questions and/or scope of practice questions, precept and orient new nurses, monitor and ensure competencies, provide clinical nursing coverage as needed, ensure the ambulatory practice standards are up to date (i.e. code cart, medications on site) participate in surveillance rounds, assess and address needs of the team, participate in projections for nursing projects and new initiatives. • Provide direct clinical oversight of the RN team and clinical research coordinators, including providing education and training in both clinic and research settings. • Manage and balance the clinical and research workload and identify and assist with coverage as needed. Collaborate with the clinical and research teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Ensure that care is safe, efficient, effective, timely, and meets the cultural, spiritual, and ethnic needs of each patient and family. • Participates in all clinical and research duties of ALS staff RNs to provide coverage within the department and support the balance of clinical work within the patient care teams. • Participate in clinical research trials within the scope of practice, ensuring that clinical operations are performed in a manner consistent with MGB, FDA, and IRB guidelines, while also helping to maximize efficiency, safety, and productivity of the trials. Operational oversight (approximately 20%) Participates in daily operational activities necessary for a safe patient/staff environment, including policy and procedure implementation. • Lead and/or partake in quality improvement initiatives for the center. Clinical patient-facing work (approximately 20%): • Supports the care of patients by acting as the primary RN for patients seen by 1 of the ALS physicians • Provides cross coverage for the RN team as needed • Collaborates during ALS clinics Summary Directs, plans, and coordinates the service activities and staffing performance of professional nursing and auxiliary nursing personnel in rendering quality patient care. May provide direct patient care.
