Summary: Perform Patient Care Technician/Patient Support Technician skills. Works in a patient care setting under the direction and supervision of an RN. Assists patients with activities related to daily living (i.e., hygiene, ambulation and lifting of patients). Utilizes pressure ulcer prevention techniques. Assists with admission, orientation, transfer and discharge of patients. Provides education to patients and residents, family and significant others. Performs selected treatments as directed by supervising staff. Recognizes and reports pertinent data, changes in patient condition and/or safety hazards to appropriate team member. Communicates variation in patient condition to appropriate person and intervenes as necessary. Performs errands such as obtaining patient care supplies, equipment, blood products, ensuring all areas are stocked, clean and safe, taking responsibility for all inventory and equipment and other related activities. Delivers specimens using correct protocols. Documents timely and appropriate patient information within scope of practice. Integrates recommendation from nursing or leadership into practice. Attends applicable educational programs and applies information to patient care. Verifies patient identification prior to providing services per established policy using appropriate patient identifiers (i.e., checking ID band, etc.). Recognizes and responds to adverse events, complications and emergency situations notifying appropriate leadership. Performs other duties as assigned.
