About The Position

The position involves performing general patient care such as hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and increased/constant observation under the guidance and mentoring of a Registered Nurse. The role is designed for nursing students who are currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program and have completed at least one semester of clinical rotations. The position requires maintaining current BLS/Healthcare provider certification and involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Requirements

  • Nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program at a college or university.
  • Must have completed a minimum of one semester of nursing clinical rotations.
  • Proof of continued enrollment in accredited pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year.
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment.
  • Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal.
  • Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
  • Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with change of staff or transfer of care.
  • Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
  • Follows standard precautions and adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient's condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients.
  • Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
  • Transports and assists patients through the admission and discharge process.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Provides exceptional service and care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products and medications throughout the facility.
  • Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests.
  • Completes all mandatory training.
  • Participates in nursing Performance Improvement (PI) activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
