About The Position

This position is for a practical or vocational nurse within the Federal service, specifically located in Kyle, SD and Wanblee, SD. To qualify, candidates must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. This includes both paid and unpaid experience, such as volunteer work through National Service programs. Candidates must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in their resume, including the total number of hours worked per week. The position requires a current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia, or proof of application for such a license. The minimum qualifications include specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, with specific examples of nursing experience provided for each grade level up to GS-06.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service.
  • Completion of a practical nurse program of at least nine months duration combined with one year of nursing assistant experience.
  • Completion of a 2-year degree program in practical nursing from an accredited institution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care administering medication by IV, PO, IM and respiratory treatments.
  • Obtain physiological measurements such as body weight, height, temperature, and vitals.
  • Independently provide nursing care to patients including dressing changes and ambulation.
  • Assist with antibiotic therapies and immunization status.
  • Use automated systems for specimen labeling and updating patient medical records.
  • Assess patients to identify chief complaints and provide care according to clinical diagnosis.
  • Document observations and outcomes, and engage in additional health inquiries.
