About The Position

The Nurse I position at the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind (CSDB) is a part-time role focused on providing health services to students who are Deaf, hard-of-hearing, blind, or visually impaired. The nurse will assess health situations, implement treatments, and educate students and staff on health-related matters. This role requires effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the well-being of students.

Requirements

  • Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (ENLC).
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the Intermediate (Level 2+, ASLPI) skill level, or willingness to attain proficiency within a specified period.
  • Ability to effectively provide health services to students with disabilities and communicate with various audiences.
  • Knowledge of technology and ability to utilize various computer software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Three or more years of licensed practical experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) with school-aged children.
  • Ability to respond effectively to feedback and work independently or in a team setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assess acute and chronic health situations and implement appropriate treatment/intervention/medications.
  • Decide which tasks can be safely delegated to non-licensed personnel and select individuals best suited for those tasks.
  • Develop training materials and provide necessary training to school staff on emergency protocols for students.
  • Determine which students require emergency care and develop transportation plans to the ER while ensuring adequate nurse coverage on campus.
  • Communicate with teachers and dorm staff regarding students' health care problems and provide guidance on care for specific medical concerns.
  • Educate students about the effects of drugs and proper medication use to avoid complications.
  • Clarify and educate parents regarding policies and procedures concerning student health services.
