About The Position

This position is an unlicensed healthcare worker who performs delegated routine, predictable patient care tasks under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in an acute care environment. The Nurse Fellow is accountable for the delivery of safe, compassionate, evidence-based quality care to patients and families, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan. Practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Key functions and specific skills for the job are found in the unit specific onboarding checklist and in standards that are applicable to the specialty.

Requirements

  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS within 60 days of hire
  • None required
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Transcript of current enrollment in a nursing program.
  • Nursing Student enrolled in Nursing School with projected graduation date of within one (1) year.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and maintains and respects patient right to privacy by following the HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care tasks/duties that have been delegated by the RN.
  • Assists with patient admissions/transfers/discharges
  • Performs transportation of patients, lifting support with appropriate lift equipment
  • Follows directions appropriately in emergency situations; reports observations
  • Responsible for timely, accurate and concise EPIC documentation
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and hospital related information
  • Body system assessments
  • Urinary catheter insertion, irrigation, and removal.
  • Skin/decubitus care .
  • Nasogastric tube insertion, irrigation and removal.
  • Tube feedings
  • Medication administration
  • Peripheral IV insertion
  • Low flow oxygen therapy initiation with nasal cannula and simple mask.
  • Provides patient education about medications, procedures, plan of care, and discharge instructions
  • Use/application of devises (Hoyer, Bladder scanner, SCDs, Restraints, Traction, etc.)
  • Specimen collection
  • Ostomy/Wound care
  • Oral/Tracheal suctioning/care
  • Chest tube set up/care
  • Central Line dressing changes/discontinuation
  • Suture/staple removal
