About The Position

The Nurse Facility Educator oversees and conducts the day‑to‑day orientation and preceptorship of all new nursing staff, beginning after general orientation and continuing through unit‑specific onboarding and beyond. This role ensures nurses develop strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and advanced skill competencies to deliver safe and effective patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required within one year of assuming the role
  • Current nursing specialty certification; if no specialty nursing certification, certification required within one year of assuming role
  • Minimum 5 years of academic teaching experience in a BSN program.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supervising BSN clinicals.
  • At least 5 years of recent Emergency Department experience, with additional ICU experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years in an ER charge nurse or equivalent leadership role.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in education preferred
  • Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the transition of new nursing staff from general hospital orientation into unit‑specific competency training.
  • Ensures nurses are fully prepared to provide competent and safe care prior to unit handoff.
  • Verifies all nurses can safely take a full patient assignment during the preceptorship phase.
  • Completes and documents all skills checklists and competency evaluations for new hires.
  • Conducts regular coaching sessions and 1:1 check-ins to support retention and professional growth.
  • Conducts learning needs assessments to identify learning gaps and provides targeted education to address performance deficiencies.
  • Supports creation and delivery of annual competencies and real‑time education for nursing staff.
  • Conducts hospital‑wide competencies as needed.
  • Delivers in‑service training and education upon request.
  • Collaborates with clinical leadership to set goals for educational programs/needs.
  • Possesses presentation skills necessary to provide education to audiences throughout the system
  • Develops nursing education programs at the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer-such as Nurse Residency programs or Career Ladder pathways-for implementation across departments.
  • Participates in community education initiatives as needed.
  • Engages in staff recruitment efforts at community events and job fairs.
  • Serves as a subject‑matter expert on nursing best practices and emerging clinical standards.
  • Displays commitment to continued personal professional development by attendance at seminars, conferences, and maintaining specialty certification, etc.
