About The Position
Join the amazing Med/Surg team at Reading Hospital! This paid externship program is designed for nursing students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program who are interested in gaining valuable clinical experience. The externship lasts for eight weeks and provides an opportunity to enhance previously learned skills while working under the guidance of experienced Registered Nurses. The extern will partner with a Registered Nurse to develop critical thinking skills, hone technical skills, and learn how to prioritize patient care. This externship is offered at the end of the second year of a nursing program, increasing the students' exposure to clinical nursing. The program emphasizes the concepts of nursing, the professional image, and the socialization and transitioning into professional practice through continued clinical exposure. The externship will take place in one of the ten Med/Surg units available at Reading Hospital, which include N3S, N3W, R3E, R3S, N2W, N2S, T3, C3, N5W, and N5S. Students will work 12-hour shifts, with a schedule of 36 hours a week and every third weekend rotation. The externship is a great opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment, where they will administer and assist with patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, observe and report changes in patient conditions, and maintain an organized and safe environment for patients and staff. Please note that interviews for this position will not begin until January 2025, with start dates in May/June 2025.
