About the position
The Nurse Extern position at Upson Regional Medical Center is designed for nursing students in their final year of an accredited RN nursing program. Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN), the extern provides routine nursing care and specific treatments to patients, while developing essential patient assessment and care skills. This role is critical for gaining hands-on experience in a clinical setting, although the extern is not permitted to perform complex treatments or administer medications.
Responsibilities
- Render routine nursing care to patients under the supervision of an RN.
- Assist the RN in developing patient assessment and care skills.
- Provide specific treatments to patients as per established standards.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients of varying ages.
- Complete a skills checklist from the nursing program.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in the last year of an accredited RN nursing program.
- Completion of the 2nd semester of patient care skills in the nursing program.
- GPA of at least 3.0.
- BLS certification is required.
- Completion of an interview process and background check.
