Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; successful completion of fundamentals of nursing course and associated clinical.
  • Basic Life Support

Responsibilities

  • Basic Life Support
  • Participates in Patient Care Team’s delivery of personalized, efficient care with respect for patient’s spiritual and cultural differences.
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in delivery of patient care.
  • Orients patient and family to room, and call bell.
  • Upon admission, obtains initial vital signs, height and weight.
  • Records daily I & O, vital signs, and food intake into Conemaugh Connect electronic health record.
  • Transports patients via appropriate means in a safe, dignified manner. Adheres to patient activity restrictions.
  • Establishes positive relationships with patients/families and reports patient/family concerns accurately and concisely to appropriate care team members.
  • Maintains positive interactions with staff on other nursing units and diagnostic testing areas.
  • Assists members of the health care team with specific tasks that support patient care services.
  • Screens the patients for pain and promptly reports the complaint of pain to the nurse.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patients, hospital and employee related information.
  • Assists the nurse in providing patient treatments and diagnostic procedures as directed.
  • Attends CEP (Clinical Excellence Practicum) annually and demonstrates required competencies.
  • Annual 1:1 education, Handle with care course.
  • Completes required education and CPR.
  • Commits to Common Ground Code of Conduct.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities unit and hospital based as directed.
  • Actively participates in Patient Satisfaction initiatives
  • Prepares, maintains, applies and removes cardiac monitoring leads.
  • Responds promptly to calls from Central Monitors, and replaces electrodes/leads/monitor batteries, as needed.
  • Adheres to patient activity restrictions.
  • Prepares equipment and cleans equipment after patient use, covers the equipment using a clear plastic bag and tagging with a “clean” sticker.
  • Adheres to Bloodborne Pathogen guidelines.
  • Performs the 5 moments of hand hygiene.
