About The Position

Find your calling at Mercy! As a student in an approved registered nurse or practical nurse school of nursing, the Nurse Extern student participates in clinical work under the direction of an RN. The Nurse Extern assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient’s highest level of wellness working cooperatively with others as part of the healthcare team and performs designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks within the nurse extern scope. Position Details: Six Week Winter Extern Program $18.00/hr “My experience as a nurse extern was truly life changing. Requirements

This program is open to any unlicensed RN student (cannot have or obtain LPN license before or during the program) who will have completed at least two semesters of nursing school and graduating Fall 2026 through Spring 2027
BLS Certification required before assigned to care for patients independently

Personal Statement. Should include answers to the following questions: Why did you choose nursing as a profession? What unit are you most interested in and/or tell us about the best clinical experience you've had so far and why (do not share the name of the facility)? What is your ideal work environment?
