Position Summary The Nurse Extern reports to the Unit Director and works under the supervision and direction of a Clinical Nurse Leader or Supervisor. This role is designed for graduates of an accredited school of nursing who are awaiting the NCLEX exam, which must be passed within 6 months of program completion. The Nurse Extern practices under the guidance of an approved preceptor and may rotate between departments with approval from the applicable Directors and the CNO. Responsibilities include basic data collection and documentation of patient progress in the medical record; observing, performing, and documenting approved nursing procedures (including administration of oxygen); attending to patient comfort needs; and carrying out specific unit-based duties as delegated by the RN. Must take boards on first offering. Graduate nurses may engage in the supervised practice of professional nursing for up to 120 calendar days. Licenses: Arizona RN license within 6 months of hire date. Certifications: American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification; American Heart Association ACLS/PALS required within 6 months of employment. Requirements

  • Graduate of a Nursing Program with a minimum Associate Degree; BSN preferred. Must take boards on first offering. Graduate nurses may engage in the supervised practice of professional nursing for up to 120 calendar days.
