Working with colleagues who love what they do and are deeply committed to our Mission, you too can be part of our transformation across the enterprise Summer Nurse Extern Program Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) hires college students each summer to work as Nurse Extern in the In-Patient Acute Care areas a as part of the Summer Nursing Externship Program The 2026 Nursing Externship will run for 8 weeks from June 1st, 2026 and is exclusive to students currently enrolled in an accredited, four year, Bachelors of Science Nursing program and have completed their junior year as of May 2026. In your role as a Nurse Extern, you will become part of our Magnet patient care delivery workforce. You will gain meaningful patient care experiences throughout this time and are provided with 4 nursing education classes throughout your 8-week experience. The first week of the program, Externs will go through a thorough orientation. The following seven weeks, program participants will be paired with preceptors and be assigned to work on hospital units to include patient ADLs. Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing in a four year BSN program
• Completed junior year as of May 2026
• Completed 1 clinical rotation or provide evidence of clinical time in simulation lab
• 3.5 GPA or above
• Heart Saver/BLS certified through the American Heart Association
• Flexible to day, evening and weekend shifts
• Committed to the entire duration of the 8 program
• Resume that highlights clinical rotations
• Excellent organization and communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment will be essential to your success at HSS.
