About The Position

Boulder Community Health is seeking a Nurse Extern for PCU who performs duties and tasks that assist the caregivers and promote effective departmental functioning. Assists RN and Unit in providing a safe, organized and efficient healthcare environment. Direct patient care functions are under the direction of the RN/LPN.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in accredited nursing program
  • Completed 1st year of a 2-year nursing program, or 3rd year of a 4-year baccalaureate nursing program, or equivalent for accelerated programs. Must complete clinical rotations in Medical/Surgical unit.
  • Must be able to provide documentation of class courses and competencies completed in 1st year of nursing school for validation.
  • BLS certification required by the end of conditional period.

Nice To Haves

  • CNA certification or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Equivalent certifications include: EMT, MA, Military Medic or completion of 1st year of nursing core classes (not prerequisites for nursing school).

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a patient safety culture and participates with other departments in achieving core measures, evidence and best practice initiatives.
  • Identifies own learning needs and expands knowledge base through clinical practice and self-directed learning.
  • Promotes Service Excellence.
  • Supports and ensures compliance with hospital, division, and departmental policies.
  • Familiar with organization, department and job specific environment of care policies, including life safety, utilities management, hazardous material communication, emergency preparedness Infection Prevention and medical equipment failure.
  • Implements interventions based on the Plan of Care, priority of patient#s needs and desired outcome, guidelines/standards of care, and agency policy and procedures. Increased complexity of assignments are assigned based on demonstrated competencies. Can perform selected procedures under the direction and supervision of a RN/LPN.
  • Evaluates practice in relation to professional standards, statues, regulations, hospital and departmental policies, and standards of care.
  • Practices proper HIPAA compliance and performs other duties as assigned.
