About The Position

Nurse Extern opportunity at Sinai's Acute Care for the Elderly, Stroke and Observation Unit for May 2026 grads. Start as a nurse extern and transition to a nursing position post graduation. Start your nursing career as a Newly Licensed RN with the same team you had the opportunity to work during your externship. This will make your transition an easier one with less ambiguities. This is a great unit to work and learn about multiple populations and diagnosis we care for at Sinai. Post graduation - Advocate Aurora Health provides a leading-edge ANCC accredited residency program with your future in mind. The New Graduate Nurse Residency Program is evidence-based and support the professional development, confidence, and overall well-being of the nurse resident as they transition from academia to the practice setting. Older patients are at risk for loss of self-care abilities during the course of an acute medical illness that results in hospitalization. The Acute Care for Elders (ACE) Unit is a continuous quality improvement model of care designed to prevent the patient’s loss of independence from admission to discharge in the performance of activities of daily living (hospital-associated disability). The ACE unit intervention includes principles of a prepared environment that encourages safe patient self-care, a set of clinical guidelines for bedside care by nurses and other health professionals to prevent patient disability and restore self-care lost by the acute illness, and planning for transitions of care and medical care. By applying a structured process, an interdisciplinary team completes a geriatric assessment, follows clinical guidelines, and initiates plans for care transitions in concert with the patient and family. The ACE Unit at Advocate Aurora Sinai is a great unit for nursing students and nurses looking to work with elder population and interested in building a strong base for community and population health services. 8 hrs a week required
