A Nurse Extern works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. How you’ll contribute  You’ll make an impact by utilizing your specialized plan-of-care intervention and serving as a patient-care innovator. You will shape exceptional patient journeys every day and leverage your skills and our cutting-edge technology to directly impact patient wellbeing. A Nurse Extern works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Reports to: Unit Manager, Accountable to: Chief Nursing Officer. FLSA: Non-exempt.

Requirements

  • School of Nursing 3rd year student or higher
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the patient care team.
  • Performs direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to supervising RN.
  • Maintains positive professional relationship with patient/ families, coworkers, and health care team.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Supports performance improvement philosophy.
  • Assist with orientation and training of personnel and students.
  • Participates and attends meetings as required and/ or assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
