About The Position

The Nurse Extern position in the Day Hospital & PACU is designed for individuals who have completed one semester of a nursing program and are looking to gain practical experience in a healthcare setting. This role involves maintaining a professional image and providing excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. The Nurse Extern will be responsible for recognizing the normal signs of growth and development in the patient population, ensuring hygiene and cleanliness, and understanding medication storage and safety. The position requires conducting hourly rounds, promoting a safe environment, assisting with nutritional interventions, and communicating patient data to the interdisciplinary team. The Nurse Extern will also collect and record patient-related data, demonstrate professional growth, and foster a caring environment.

Requirements

• Completed one semester of Nursing Program
• BLS certification

Responsibilities

• Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
• Recognizes the normal signs of growth and development of the patient population and understands the requirements of assessment, treatment, and care.
• Initiates and maintains the hygiene/cleanliness of the patients, the patient's environment, and the unit environment.
• Understands and recognizes appropriate storage and safety of medications.
• Conducts hourly rounds using Service Excellence Standards.
• Promotes and fosters an environment of comfort and safety for patients and visitors.
• Performs or assists with performing nutritional/hydration interventions.
• Identifies and communicates appropriate patient data to members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Collects and records patient-related data through the performance of direct care tasks.
• Demonstrates continued professional growth through setting goals and participating in Evidence Based tasks.
• Utilizes appropriate health and safety to protect both the patient and staff.
• Fosters an environment that demonstrates caring, compassion, and respect for all patients, families, and visitors.
• Performs general transportation and courier duties as directed.
• Participates proactively in problem-solving initiatives.
