About The Position

The Nurse Extern position at Bronson Battle Creek is a part-time, PRN role designed for nursing students who are within a year of graduation. The externship will begin on June 2, 2025, and involves working in various units including Medical Surgical Rotation, Neuro Vascular Unit, General Medical Unit, and Medical Surgical Oncology. The position requires a minimum of four shifts per month, including two weekend shifts, and offers a paid, year-round opportunity with 12-hour variable shifts. Nurse Externs will work under the supervision of an RN to implement patient care and will undergo a two-week orientation program to prepare for their roles.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited school of nursing and within a year of graduation.
• BLS Certification.
• Satisfactory completion of a pharmacology course or performance on a pharmacology medication test.
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems.

Responsibilities

• Work with an RN to implement patient care based on the patient's age.
• Communicate learning needs to the nurse preceptor.
• Seek out a variety of learning experiences.
• Document and communicate during each tour of duty the patient's response to care provided.
• Take vital signs and assess patient conditions.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
• Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations.
• Manage discharge planning and preparation for assigned patients.
• Participate in department or unit performance improvement activities.
