About The Position

Nurse Educator Summary The Nurse Educator is a professional licensed Registered Nurse (RN) who is responsible for organizing, directing, coordinating, teaching, and evaluating educational presentations for all Nursing personnel in the Acute hospital and the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)/Long Term Care (LTC). The Nurse Educator must demonstrate a willingness to work with others. The Nurse Educator shall report to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and shall assume responsibility for new employee orientation, annual competencies, and general in-service education. Infection Prevention Summary As the Infection Prevention RN, you will be responsible in assisting the Infection Prevention Manager in all activities related to the prevention, control, documentation and reporting of nosocomial acquired infections and communicable diseases at Seneca Healthcare District. These responsibilities include setting standards and evaluating compliance for practices that are associated with the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections. This will include (but are not limited to) surveillance, analysis, and reporting. Seneca Healthcare District’s goal is to provide a safe environment through the prevention of infection in patients, families, employees, and visitors. Because of the confidential nature of Infection Prevention matters, this Position is designated as a confidential employee and therefore, exempt from union status.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a current California State Board Registered Nursing (RN) License.
  • Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience.
  • Must have one year (1) experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in the field of nursing.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS current certifications.
  • Must be able to pass required physical, drug screening test, and background check.
  • At the discretion of the hospital, full time and part time Registered Nurses (RN’s) will be cross trained to work in any Nursing Department in SHD, including but not limited to Utilization Review/Discharge Planning, Acute, ER, OR, and SNF/LTC.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Instructor Certificate for Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred.
  • Requires certification in Infection Control (CIC) or equivalent within 6 months of obtaining the position.

Responsibilities

  • Be able to perform all Registered Nurse (RN) duties as described in the RN job description (See attached.)
  • May be required to work a floor shift.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain yearly In-service (Education) Calendars for the entire SHD RN’s and LVN’s.
  • Keep accurate records including course lesson plans, course objectives, handouts, and evaluation methodology.
  • Maintain, track, and keep up-to-date accurate spreadsheets of all nursing staff certifications including CPR, ACLS, and PALS.
  • Coordinate new Nursing Orientation, Checklist, POCT and Annual Nursing Competency Programs for all Nursing Staff.
  • Provide necessary general In-services and Re-orientation to meet Acute hospital requirements according to Title 22, SOM, CAH.
  • Coordinate and make all travel arrangements for instructors from other facilities for CPR, ACLS, PALS, and other education programs as required.
  • Coordinate implement, and critique Mock Code Drills.
  • Follow all general and department safety, security, and health policies and procedures.
  • Utilize and implement best practices recommended for the individual nursing departments.
  • Complete annual employee health requirements in a timely manner.
  • Must keep all licenses and certifications current.
  • Other related duties as may become necessary or as requested by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and House Supervisor.
  • Schedule and coordinate all new Orientation Program, which will include a Skills Check-off prior to direct patient care.
  • All Nursing Orientation Programs will be tailored to the needs of the specific Nurse ensuring training occurs prior to direct patient care assignment.
  • Complete an Orientation Skills Return Demonstration Checklist on all new RN’s/LVN’s proving their competency to perform all direct patient care tasks in which they will be assigned.
  • Provide skills training to all new Nursing Staff in any deficient areas identified before allowing task to be performed on a patient.
  • Act as a liaison to Staff Nurses, who provide orientation or preceptorship to new nurses.
  • Develop a formal preceptorship program for new graduate RN’s and LVN’s.
  • Schedule and coordinate Annual Nursing Competency Program.
  • Coordinate and implement Hospital Wide and Department Specific Annual Safety Training Modules with the Hospital Safety Coordinator’s assistance.
  • Assist Acute Care, Emergency Room, and Operating Room, SNF, Nursing Coordinators/CNO in developing In-services and Continuation Education Units (CEU’s).
  • Develop Skills Competencies for all Nursing Staff and coordinate Annual Skills Day for Nurses.
  • Provide opportunity for CEU Presentations from outside facilities.
  • Retain an up-to-date file with an orientation checklist including a Skills Competency (Return Demonstration) log, signed-off by a licensed nurse for all Registered Nurses (RN’s), and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN’s), who complete orientation at SHD.
  • File and retain all employee attendance records, course descriptions, objectives, handouts, and CEU’s for four (4) years on all In-service classes presented at SHD.
  • Coordinate with Department Managers regarding Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QA/PI) to identify training needs.
  • Provide resources for staff In-services in clinical skills development.
  • Coordinate and implement Annual Skills Day for Nurses.
  • Develop training interventions policies, and procedures to resolve problems related to Infection Control, Safety, Nursing Orientation, Annual Competencies, Nurse Preceptorship Program, and revamp new Nursing forms, etc.
  • Coordinate, update, review, and revise on a yearly basis: Nursing Orientation, Competency Plan, Orientation and Re-Orientation Program, and Policies and Procedures.
  • Helps in developing action plans to correct negative variances.
  • Assists in the development and helps coordinate the infection prevention and control program throughout the facility.
  • Serves as a resource and subject matter expert to staff, leaders, medical staff, patients and the community for infection prevention and control.
  • Assists with epidemiological investigations of significant clusters of infections and single cases of unusual infection.
  • Assists in preparing reports and statistical data for the infection prevention committee, medical staff committees, medical executive committee and the facilities administration and other committees as needed.
  • Maintains CONFIDENTIALITY of departmental and patient information.
  • Attends and participates in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs as directed.
  • Completes annual health requirements in a timely manner.
  • Attends Quality Assurance, Infection Control, Pharmacy and Therapeutics and other department meetings as specified by Infection Prevention Manager
  • Works assigned shifts on Acute and/or Emergency Department as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
