About The Position

The Simulation Clinical Nurse Educator is a student-centered position that works directly with academic departments developing and implementing evidence-based scenarios that develop student diagnostic and critical thinking skills through human patient simulators. Functions as a member of the management and nursing team, as well as serves as a leader and role model. Responsible for nursing students presenting to the organization from approved academic registered nurse programs in the community. Provides educational programs and in-services to the students and employees, as well as consults, develops, plans, implements, and evaluates programs provided. Schedules hours divided between simulation training for students, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital employees, and community partners, clinical opportunities for the students, and educational duties. Attends relevant staff and faculty meetings at both Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and academic partner institutions. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision, and values of Phoebe. Requirements

  • 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required)
  • 2+ years clinical practice as a registered nurse (Required)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current Georgia license
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
  • 1+ years simulation experience (Preferred)
  • Certified Nurse Educator (CNE)
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS)

Responsibilities

  • Assist Director and (or) Manager in evaluating the clinical performance of the staff
  • Stays current on trends and developments in nursing.
  • Participates in educational programs which improve clinical skills.
  • Understands, interprets, teaches, and implements, appropriate evidenced based practice guidelines in clinical decision making.
  • Uses research in clinical decision making.
  • Complies with established nursing standards; implements and maintains established departmental, divisional and hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environment and infection control. Interpret these to staff and patients as appropriate.
  • Follow established routines and utilize supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel.
  • Cooperate with other departments to achieve division objectives and maintain good employee relations.
  • Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information as defined by HIPPA regulations.
  • Coordinate and provide orientation and competency programs for new employees as well as yearly competency updates for all staff.
  • Provides educational programs to staff to ensure that the most recent and up to date information is available to them and that this information meets the needs of both the department and the division.
  • CONSULTATION AND COLLABORATION: Provides information and consultation to administrative personnel and to staff, regarding programs, projects, and identified problems to be addressed by educational offerings.
  • Ensures orientation of new employees.
  • Serves as a positive role model, mentor, and resource person for less experienced nursing staff.
  • Acts as a liaison for conflict resolution.
  • Actively participates in Quality Improvement studies by collecting pertinent data, providing comparative information, presenting results of studies with co-workers, management, and leadership.
  • Provides solutions to those issues that research has shown exist.
  • Ensures evaluation and implementation of educational needs of patients as ongoing process in collaboration with nursing staff, physicians, and other ancillary departments involved in the patients' care.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff to identify and provide the necessary patient and family education.
  • Collaborates with Director, Manager, Physicians, other clinical staff and (or) other Educators on an ongoing basis in order to plan and implement those programs deemed appropriate and/or necessary for staff.
  • Conducts pre and post-simulation scenarios, including moulage set-up, removal, as well as technical support
  • Partners directly with faculty in the process of student learning, assessment and performance by providing feedback through debriefing sessions Identifies, arranges, and manages supplies required for each human patient simulation clinical experience.
  • Provides technological orientation and training of all medical equipment (i.e., ventilators, IV pump, feeding pump, etc.) for incoming students, staff, and other learners.
  • Aligns and supports nursing curricula using simulation.
  • Creates and modifies patient simulation scenarios or case studies that are evidence-based to meet learning objectives set by the academic programs.
  • Keeps abreast of current and new technology within the medical field, particularly nursing.
  • Oversees the implementation of lab rules and procedures.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development and networking opportunities related to nursing and simulation education expertise.
  • Engages in simulation research activities including participation in study implementation and data collection.
  • Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs).
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
