About The Position

The Nurse Educator and Infection Preventionist plays a critical role in the Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) health services by providing leadership in infection control and nursing education. This position involves coordinating nursing orientation, developing competencies, and serving as a consultant and collaborator with other treatment disciplines to ensure high standards of nursing care and infection prevention.

Requirements

• Associate of Nursing Degree OR Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in nursing or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Certification in Infection Prevention and Control or ability to obtain within 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Provides highly specialized work to ensure timely and appropriate management of infection control issues.
• Institutes measures in responses to emergent infection control issues.
• Development and oversight of facility infection control programs that are specific to individual facilities and the populations they serve.
• Developing risk reduction measures to prevent the transmission of infections between clients, visitors, and staff of the programs served.
• Develops and oversees infection control training and training material for the education of staff in important infection control topics and routine infection control practices to prevent transmission of infectious diseases and ensure a sanitary environment.
• Assures that infection control programs, and their implementation, adhere to infection control practice standards, including those identified in Minnesota Statute, MN Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MNOSHA), MN Department of Health (MDH), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and any other regulatory authorities providing oversight and input to programs.
