About The Position

Responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the staff development and educational activities designed to address identified or anticipated needs of learners for assigned area(s). Assures the quality of patient care, and clinical practice progression on assigned cross-campus unit(s) through the assessment, coaching, and development of the nursing staff and collaboration with interdisciplinary care team. This includes the all aspects of clinical practice, patient care, workplace safety, and the outcomes of care patients receive. Participates in the development and implementation of educational programs for the entire Nursing Department. Seeking a Nurse Educator to lead a talented group of professional nurses on our surgical ICU. The ideal candidate will have years of surgical ICU nursing experience preferably in trauma and/or transplant, and a passion for educating and mentoring nursing staff. The Nurse Education Safety Specialist works closely with the unit leader to drive education and support an environment for learning and delivering high quality care to our patients. This includes all aspects of clinical practice, patient care, workplace safety, and the outcomes of care patients receive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.
  • Currently holds an active RN license in the State of Massachusetts.
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • Must have at least 3 years of clinical ICU nursing experience with at least 1 year experience in clinical preceptor and/or charge nurse role.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation computer software.
  • Position requires frequent use of the computer, keyboard and printer; educational equipment such as teaching manikins, simulators, LCD projectors, etc.; and reading of printed materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Trauma and/or Transplant Critical Care Nursing.
  • Current Case Manager Certification.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching highly desired.
  • Process improvement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for communicating, educating and monitoring changes to clinical practice and expectations including reviewing documentation, providing additional support to staff and reporting ongoing non-compliance to management.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team in the strategic planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of systems to support and enhance the competence, autonomy, and accountability of the nursing staff including defining nursing standards, practices, and educational needs of nursing staff.
  • Acts as a member of the nursing leadership team by participating in interview panels, orientation, annual regulatory and clinical competency requirements.
  • Reports unprofessional or unsafe practice to the Nurse Manager.
  • Assists Manager and/or designee to ensure the department complies with hospital established policies, regulatory, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Promotes a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Reports out on all entered Safety Intelligence Reports; Responsible for initial review and investigation and escalate serious reportable events (SRE) immediately to the Nurse Manager.
