About The Position

Job Summary: The Nurse Clinician-Specialty Team Centers is a registered nurse with clinical expertise in caring for patients with specific serious pediatric diseases, physical limitations and chronic health conditions. Works in the outpatient clinic environment and demonstrates advanced knowledge of diseases treated in over eighteen Specialty Care Clinics licensed under Loma Linda University Children's Hospital (LLUCH) and approved by California Children's Services (CCS). Employs discretion and independent judgment to provide developmentally appropriate and age-specific direct and indirect patient care and oversees Licensed Vocational Nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel. Continually expands knowledge base in area of specialty and stays current with evolving evidenced-based best practices, clinical practice guidelines, related state and federal regulations and available technology. Utilizes disease-specific knowledge base and the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) independently to evaluate patient and caregiver level of understanding of disease, treatment, complications and self-management of the disease. Collaborates with other clinics and services as necessary to support continuity of care across the continuum, e.g., pre-admission, post procedure/surgery, post discharge. Participates in team conferences to coordinate implementation of treatment plan recommendations. Provides patient and caregiver education and tailors information to the appropriate level of literacy and ensures that patient clearly understands information. Utilizes interpretation services (including sign-language) by accessing interpreter services, language line and in-house video interpretation as needed. Excels in implementing new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
  • Minimum two years of nursing experience which has provided the opportunity to demonstrate competencies in clinical nursing caring for pediatric patients in either acute care or outpatient environment
  • In-depth knowledge and clinical expertise in specific serious pediatric diseases, physical limitations and chronic health conditions
  • Substantial knowledge of education principles for all ages required
  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required
  • Must meet CCS paneled provider requirements within 18 months of hire
  • Other certifications and competencies as specified in the unit/department-specific Plan for Providing Care required
